The alarm rang at 4am, and despite the grogginess that clung to us, our excitement fueled our spirits. Tu Luke, in particular, was bubbling with anticipation. You see, in our family, there are two religions that we hold dear: Jesus Christ and rugby. And today, those two passions were about to intertwine in a remarkable way.
The early morning sun had yet to rise as we embarked on our journey to West London. Today was a special day for Tu Luke and our family. We were heading to the Esher Rugby Club for a Youth Rugby Clinic, and what made it even more thrilling was the presence of the Flying Fijians squad, who were in town for the upcoming Rugby World Cup 2023.

As we made our way through the quiet streets, the world was still draped in darkness. The city slumbered, unaware of the excitement brewing within our car. Tu Luke hardly slept a wink the night before, his mind filled with images of the day ahead. The chance to learn from the Flying Fijians squad, renowned for their skill, strength, and sheer passion for the game, was a dream come true for him.
We arrived at the Esher Rugby Club just as the first rays of sunlight began to paint the sky with hues of orange and gold. The air was crisp, and the atmosphere buzzed with anticipation. There was a palpable energy, a shared love for the sport that united everyone present.
Tu Luke, with his eyes gleaming and a smile stretching from ear to ear, eagerly joined the other young rugby enthusiasts on the field. The Flying Fijians squad, a group of talented athletes who had dedicated their lives to the game, welcomed them with open arms. The day promised to be filled with learning, camaraderie, and an abundance of rugby spirit.
As a family, we watched from the sidelines, hearts swelling with pride. We were grateful for this opportunity to witness Tu Luke’s passion and dedication in action. It was a reminder of how sports can bring people together, transcend boundaries, and ignite a fire within young hearts.
The Youth Rugby Clinic with the Flying Fijians squad was the perfect embodiment of our shared love for rugby. It was a day that Tu Luke would cherish for years to come, a memory that would fuel his own dreams on the rugby field.
As the clinic commenced and the sound of laughter and cheers filled the air, I couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of gratitude for the game of rugby and the experiences it offers. It was a reminder that in our family, rugby is more than just a sport—it’s a way of life, a source of joy, and a conduit for connection with others who share the same passion.
And so, we stood there, basking in the early morning light, grateful for the opportunity to witness Tu Luke’s journey unfold, knowing that this day would forever be etched in our hearts as a testament to the power of rugby and the dreams it inspires.
